A planetary speed reducer (planetary gear reducer) lowers the speed of a motor and multiplies its torque through one or more planetary stages on a common axis. It is the core of Kavitsu’s product range. We have manufactured planetary speed reducers in Satara, Maharashtra since 1992, from small units up to drives weighing 43 tonnes.
This page covers the inline speed reducer series and how to select it. For the full overview of our range, see planetary gearbox manufacturer.
Planetary speed reducers are designed, built and tested at Kavitsu's Satara works, in 20 modular sizes.
Planetary Speed Reducer Supplier
We supply speed reducers to OEMs, EPC contractors and plants across India, including replacements for imported reducers.
Planetary Speed Reducer Exporter
Planetary speed reducers are exported to more than 30 countries with full documentation.
Selecting a Planetary Speed Reducer
Kavitsu sizes speed reducers using the terms in our catalogue:
Nominal torque Mn2: the output torque at uniform continuous load with service factor fs = 1.
Calculated torque Mc2 = Mr2 × fs: the required torque multiplied by the service factor. It must not exceed Mn2.
Ratio i = n1 / n2: keep the input speed at or below 1,500 rpm for continuous industrial duty.
Life factor Fh2 = n2 × h: output speed multiplied by the required working hours.
Thermal power Pt: checked for continuous duty at 1,500 rpm and 20°C ambient, with a correction factor for other conditions.
Speed reducers can be driven by electric or hydraulic motors. Hydraulic versions can include a negative multi-disc parking brake.
Applications
Conveyors, mixers and agitators, hoists, winches, mill drives, kilns, clarifiers, slewing and travel drives in steel, cement, sugar, mining, chemical, paper and water treatment plants.
Information Needed to Quote a Planetary Speed Reducer
To recommend the right model quickly, please share:
Required output torque (Mr2) and output speed (n2)
Input: electric motor kW and rpm, or hydraulic motor
Service factor: type of load and daily running hours
Required working life in hours
Mounting position and shaft type
Ambient temperature for the thermal check
Every Kavitsu unit is assembled and tested in-house at Satara before dispatch. Test certificates and GA drawings are supplied with project and export orders.
